Los & Stigter is a well-known brand in the field of intellectual property and its protection. The firm is established in 1910 and employs experienced attorneys with proven track records, mostly in multinational industries.
Currently the firm has three offices in the Netherlands in Amsterdam, region Utrecht and region Eindhoven, and closely works together with an extensive network of associated firms in other countries.
From the firm’s offices close to the European Patent Office and the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property in The Hague, effective filing and prosecution of patent-, trademark- and design-applications is carried out.

Jacques van Breda

Jacques van Breda is Dutch and European patent attorney and Benelux and European trademark and design attorney. He studied electrical engineering at Delft University of Technology(1978) and Law at the University of Leiden (1984). Jacques serves as a deputy judge in the Appeal court in the Hague.
Jacques practices in a very diverse field of technologies with a focus on patenting mechanical, electronic and software-related inventions. Examples of his areas of expertise range from food processing technology to bicycle parts, and from computer tomography and mammography to sandwich-panels for airplanes. He regularly defends the interest of his clients in the courtroom, and frequently participates in oppositions and appeals at the European patent office, both in the Hague and in Munich with results that far outweigh the odds. Furthermore, Jacques advises clients on licensing and collaboration agreements.
Irma Scheltus

Irma Scheltus studied chemistry at the University of Amsterdam and obtained her master’s degree in organo-metal chemistry. As a patent attorney, she has over 20 years of experience in the chemical industry where she has worked as a patent attorney in various chemical fields. In this context, she has gained experience in patent granting procedures in “non-standard” countries such as the Gulf States, Russia and some Asian countries.
Her varied experience has proven to be particularly valuable in writing patent applications, but also valuable in oppositions and generally in giving patent advice. Her practice is particularly focused on inventions in the field of chemical processes, materials and their use, such as polyolefins, catalysis, naphtha crackers, melamine, urea, resins and biomedical materials. She has experience in protecting the results of industrial and more fundamental research. Clients appreciate her approach to the international patent environment and her strategic advice.
Ferdinand Leeger

Ferdinand Leeger graduated cum laude as a chemical technologist from Eindhoven University of Technology. During his early career in the food industry he worked on projects in the Netherlands and Belgium for modelling reactor systems. Ferdinand gained extensive experience with regard to chemical plant design, lithography, catalysis and multivariate data analysis. Before joining Los & Stigter he worked as a patent attorney on a wide range of mechanical, electrical and physical inventions. His knowledge and experience therefore extends far beyond his chemical background.
Paula Gallego

Paula Gallego is Head of Formalities at Los & Stigter in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She has completed the Patent Administrator certification by the British CIPA and later a Master in Intellectual Property at the University of Barcelona, in addition to advanced courses in Patents and IP management provided by WIPO. She is also a member of the Dutch Platform of Formalities Officers.
Karin Doornweerd-Boeree

Mr Karin Doornweerd-Boeree graduated from the University of Amsterdam in 1994 with a degree in law. Since 2001, she has been employed by Los & Stigter as a Benelux and European trademark and design attorney.
Pieter Flier
Close
Mr. Pieter Flier graduated from Tilburg University, where he studied law. He completed his master in private law, specialising in intellectual property, with merit. Pieter wrote his master’s thesis on the linguistic change in words one owns: the genericide of trademarks.
Pieter joined Los & Stigter in 2019 as a Trademark and Design attorney. Before that, he worked for a law firm which also specialises in intellectual property law. His activities included trademark enforcement, advising on trademark portfolio strategy’s as well as drafting and reviewing licensing- and distribution agreements.
Pieter is a member of the Benelux association for Trademark- and Design Law (BMM).
Ghassan Salim

Ir. Ghassan Salim is a trainee patent attorney.
He holds an MSc in applied physics, an MSc in plasmonics and nanotechnology, and an MSc in medical physics and engineering. He is in the finishing phase of his PhD in MRI physics and electrical engineering
Before joining Los & Stigter, he accumulated years of experience in multiple industrial and medical institutions as an R&D engineer. He is intimately familiar with the world of business and knows how to keep the client’s commercial interests a high priority.
